The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge also known as the Pearl Bridge, likes the city of Kobe on the mainland of Honshu to Iwaya on Awaji Island, in Japan. It crosses the busy Akashi Strait (Akashi Kaikyo in Japanese). It carries part of the Honshu-Shikoku Highway. Since its completion, in 1998, the bridge has the longest central span of any suspension bridge in the world at 1,991 metres.
It is one of the key links of the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Project, which created three routes across the Inland Sea. More than 1,000 lights are attached to the main cables, and are lit up in a variety of colors, according to the season or the time of year. Toll fee is 2,300 yen.
Awaji Island  is a place of myth and a treasure house of food. It is also famous as a flower island. Awaji Island is an island in the eastern park of the Seto Inland Sea between the islands of Honshu and Shikoku. The island has an area of 592.12 km2. As a transit between those two islands Awaji originally means "the road to Awa" the historic province bordering the Shikoku side of the Naruto Strait, now part of Tokushima Prefecture.
